Mobile home insurance is similar to homeowners insurance, but instead you get specialized coverage for your factory-built home. Whether you need manufactured home insurance or modular home insurance, Progressive can customize a policy to meet the needs of your property.
The following protections are included on most mobile/modular home policies:
If your home is damaged by a covered peril, dwelling coverage helps to repair or replace the physical structure.
Example: Your home’s roof is damaged in a hailstorm. Dwelling insurance coverage can pay to repair your roof or replace it, if necessary.
Your personal property, such as furniture, appliances, clothing and electronics, is covered up to a specified limit if lost or damaged in a covered incident. Keep in mind, if you’re in possession of jewelry, expensive artwork, or any other valuables, you may have to “schedule” the item on your policy (also known as adding an “insurance rider”).
Example: There is an outbreak of burglaries in your neighborhood, and your laptop is stolen. You’re covered for the actual cash value of the laptop, minus any deductible and up to the coverage limits on your policy.
If a household member is responsible for someone else’s injury or damaged property, personal liability coverage can cover you up to your policy’s limits.
Example: Your children are playing soccer in the front yard, and accidentally kick the ball through your neighbor’s stained-glass window. Liability coverage will pay to replace the window, up to the limits of your policy.
Also known as “additional living expenses,” loss of use coverage can pay for meals and hotel costs if can’t live in your home because of a covered loss.
Example: Your modular home suffers water damage due to a busted pipe and you’ll need to live in a hotel for three weeks while the damage is repaired. Loss of use coverage will pay for the hotel bill, up to your coverage limits.
Depending on your provider and state, you may be able to add additional protection, including:
Protect your home and your belongings against depreciation. Optional replacement cost coverage gives you the money you need to repair or replace what’s damaged without depreciating the value.
Example: A fire destroys your mobile home, which you purchased for $140,000 ten years ago. A standard policy pays you the actual cash value of the home, $120,000 — a figure that includes depreciation. But, with replacement cost coverage, your insurance will pay what’s needed to rebuild your home with the same quality or, if the damage is beyond repair, pay up to the $140,000 purchase price.
While your home is on the move, protect against any damage to your home from a collision. Coverage is for one move during a specific 30-day period.
Example: Your home is being relocated and collides with a moving truck while in transit. Trip collision coverage can pay for any damage to your home’s structure, up to your policy’s limits.
You’re only responsible for one deductible if you bundle Progressive mobile home and auto insurance and a claim applies to both. If you didn’t have both policies with Progressive, you’d end up paying two separate deductibles. This benefit is only available in certain states. **
Example: A hailstorm causes damage to the roof of your home and your car. Your mobile home insurance covers repairs to your roof and your car insurance, if you carry comprehensive coverage, covers damage to your vehicle. Assuming you have a $500 deductible for both policies, you only have to pay one deductible and both will be repaired.
